Effective Now, CBSE Abolishes Board Exams & Introduces New Grading System, Aptitude Tests

In a bid to save students the tension that Board Exams bring, the CBSE abolished the same a few months back. As a next step, the CBSE has introduced a new scheme, dubbed as the “CCE” (continuous and comprehensive evaluation), which will be effective in all CBSE affiliated schools, from October 2009. Students can opt for an “On Demand” online or paper based test for self assessment (or with respect to their peers).

The CCE is designed with a formative and a summative assessment component. The former will have a number of tests, quizzes, interviews and projects while the latter will comprise subject wise exams for testing a student’s knowledge. Another new feature is the aptitude test – which has been designed to work in toto with the school’s internal assessment and the CCE to help students choose their subjects for studies in class eleven.

With all these changes in place, school students should now be able to choose their subjects in a more judicious manner and spare themselves the tension that board exams bring.

It’s good but all the JEEs for entry to Higher Education Institutes (Engg & Medical etc) should be desgined considering this method. Else students in Higher Secondary Schools may not perform better in JEE without additional coaching
