In a long discussion presided over by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday some key decisions were made regarding the implementation of The Right to Education Act in Orissa.
The right to education act requires that all children up to the age of 14 years be given compulsory education. For the implementation of the provisions of this Act, the state will require at least Rs 16,000 crore.
Amongst other things it was decided that the student teacher ratio be close to 30:1 and there be a minimum of two teachers per school. As per the current situation while there is a dearth of teachers in some areas there are more than required in others. The process of relocation of teachers, appointing more para-teachers and providing training facilities to be undertaken by IGNOU, will all be started simultaneously in a few days without further ado.
Besides this, basic infrastructural facilities like separate lavatories for boys and girls, boundary walls and printing of atleast 50 lakh books are to commence soon. The State will also look at modernizing of the textbook printing press and the books will also be printed in Braille.
